The Centers provide professionally planned and supervised adult day care with social,
recreational and routine health services. A nutritious noon meal is also provided. There
is an hourly fee; however, fee adjustments can be made based on ability to pay. An added
benefit is the respite for family caregivers. Bathing services and caregivers support also

A fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each
other that they may solve their common problem and help others recover from alcoholism.
The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or
fees for A.A. membership. We are self supporting. A.A. neither endorses nor opposes any
causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve
sobriety. We provide meeting information throughout the Valley. We also provide speakers
and/or panels to persons seeking information on alcoholism and recovery.

The Alzheimers Association has a number of helpful programs designed to assist
caregivers and families. These programs include:
Goodsell In-Home Assessment Program-A program designed to mobilize the family for
caregiving. A nurse trained in geriatrics and dementia care will assess the functional
needs of a loved one, the support needs of the family, as well as assessment of the home
environment and available community resources.
Safe Return Program-Designed to help locate individuals suffering from memory loss who
wander away from home. This program helps police, medical emergency teams and others
identify individuals with memory loss and return them to their families.
Support Groups-Twenty-three support groups are available to families dealing with
dementia.
Helpline-Information and referral line to available community resources.

Serves all metropolitan areas of the valley west of 43rd Avenue and the communities of
Wickenburg and Gila Bend. Local units of dedicated volunteers work toward the control and
eventual elimination of cancer. The Society relies solely on public contributions to fund
its three-pronged approach to cancer control: 1) Research, 2) Education to inform the
public and professional community of prevention and detection of cancer, 3) Service to
cancer patients and their families.
Educational programs, materials, speakers, and services are available free of charge;
volunteers in all areas are always needed.

Our mission is to reduce death and disability due to cardiovascular diseases and
stroke. The organization's main priorities are research and community programs. We provide

This Agency coordinates the planning of services in Maricopa County for seniors age 60
and over and for adults age 18 and over with long term disabilities. The agency supports
the area's disabled and elderly by coordinating their advocacy efforts, promoting public
awareness of the challenges they face, and informing the public about available programs
and services.
Some of the services available include Counseling/casework, Senior HELP LINE, home safety
repair, legal assistance, multipurpose senior centers, home delivered meals, homebound and
visually impaired programs, volunteer ombudsmen, AGE WORKS, and speakers.

Provides financial and emotional assistance for needy Arizona kidney failure victims.
Areas of assistance include medications, transportation, emergency living expenses, etc.,
not covered by Medicare or other programs. Used walkers, wheelchairs, etc., are loaned.
Counseling and support groups are available. Secondary programs include educating the
public and patients in the latest developments in prevention treatment, and research of
kidney disease, and organ donation. Speakers are available. The Foundation relies on

The free CareCard serves as an emergency identification card, and may be used at either
health care center. Space on the back allows recording of pertinent information such as
allergies, medications and a physician's name and phone number.
The Card also serves as your personal library card at the Sun Living Health Community

Certified counselor/therapists are available to area residents who may be experiencing difficulties in handling life's challenges. Services include personal, family, bereavement, and retirement counseling, as well as various support groups. Counselors are available for personal consultation Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 PM. Group sessions are also available. Therapists also provide in-home counseling sessions for homebound individuals. Behavioral Health Day Treatment is now available as an alternative to inpatient behavioral health care. (After 4:00 P.M. and on weekends an answering service forwards emergency calls to a counselor.)

Laboratory services include blood tests, medical imaging services include X-ray and mammography services and cardiac diagnostic services include EKGs. Hours are 7 A.M. to 5 P.M. The club works with Recreation Centers and merchants to improve accessibility and services
in the community for the convenience of the disabled.

relatives and associates who meet monthly to educate members regarding causes and
complications of hearing loss. Keeps members informed of advances in hearing aids and

UOA chapter is a volunteer organization of ostomates whose purpose is to supplement the
work of the surgeon by offering mutual aid and moral support follow-up through people who
have learned to live with an ostomy. Trained members visit ostomy patients in hospitals
and at their homes upon request with the consent of the patient's physicians.

Thanks to community support, contributed funds are making it possible to build new hope
through research being conducted in the Institute's L.J. Roberts Center for Alzheimer's
Research, Christopher Center for Parkinson's Research and the new Robert J. Hoover Center
for Arthritis Research.
Because these diseases are unique to human beings, the Institute requires postmortem brain
tissue from Alzheimer's patients and comparative tissue from other older individuals to
help researchers discover treatment and prevention.

Conducted by the Sun Living Health Community Education Center, the Staying-Well Center travels to select sites each month to bring health screenings, workshops and discussions to the community. In addition to scheduled events, free blood-pressure readings always are available. Public sites include the Olive Branch Senior Center (at the Sunbowl Shopping Plaza in Sun City), Ventana Lakes and the Peoria Senior Center. A telecommunication device for the deaf is located in the Emergency Services
Departments of both hospitals. A person with impaired hearing who has a TDD printer has
immediate access to help.
A state agency serving the needs of Arizona's deaf and hard of hearing residents. The
Arizona Council for the Hearing Impaired (ACHI) serves as a statewide information and
referral for issues dealing with the hearing impaired. ACHl provides free TTY
(Telecommunications Devices for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing) for qualified state
residents. ACHI also administers a statewide 24-hour telephone relay service that provides
a telephone communication link. between both the hearing and hearing impaired.

Offers a sense of security through daily contact with someone who cares. The program is
staffed by dedicated hospital volunteers and is available year round.
Participants call every morning between 7:30 A.M. and 9:30 A.M. If the call is not
received the volunteer attempts to contact the person. If there is still no answer, a
checking procedure assures the health and safety of the participant.
