This community was started in 1960 and complete in about 1978. Sun City is the largest retirement community in the country. The resident population is approximately 46,000 in number, enjoying access to seven recreation centers, 11 golf courses, a 7,500 seat outdoor amphitheater, three private country clubs, a private dining club and several shopping centers. The 8,900 acre community includes a full-service medical hospital and numerous medical specialty services.

This community was originally planned on approximately 7,000 acres encompassing 11 square miles. Recent expansion to the north will add about 3,500 more homes. The community will have a population of approximately 30,000 when completed. The community features five recreation centers with tennis, bowling, swimming, bocce, miniature golf, walking track, fitness center, metal and woodworking clubs, softball field and six golf courses. Sun City West, Arizona is located 14 miles northwest of Phoenix, Arizona.
